Ronald "Ron" Stoppable is Kim Possible's lifelong best friend and finally boyfriend, mainly serving as her faithful sidekick during missions. He is portrayed almost oppositely to Kim, typically getting low grades and tending to slacking off, and overall being shown to be less capable than her. Although note, on some very rare occasions he does seem almost as capable as Kim and he got less lazy as time went on. He is also shown to be an eccentric student with an erratic and contradictory personality. Some of his schoolmates view him as weird and odd and often refer to him as a "loser".

Appearance[]

Ron is medium height as he was estimated to be 5'9" (5ft 9in) with a wiry build.

He has messy blond hair and brown eyes with a fair skin complexion and freckles. His face is oval-shaped with a long and pointy nose.

Clothing[]

Main article: Ron's clothes

Casual Outfit[]

Ron was typically seen wearing the same outfit on a daily basis, which consisted of a long-sleeve navy blue mock-turtleneck shirt under a short-sleeved red jersey, light brown cargo pants, and white sneakers. Though occasionally he wore different outfits, such as a Blue Button-Up, Brown Pants, and a Green Baseball Shirt, or Green Pants. He wore boxer shorts under all of his outfits.

Ron's primary own personal style of clothing briefly became a fashion trend just after Kim's own look had become popular then rapidly faded. Like the KimStyle4Him, the RonStyle was donned by men, women, and even pets, Rufus included. However, while KimStyle was her mission wear, RonStyle was his everyday apparel[1].

Ron's overall look has repeatedly been considered as lacking in fashion sense, both by his peers and those highly respected in the world of fashion. He once had an encounter with the Fashion Police Officers, Twill & Tweed. According to them, his sports jersey was a serious violation, but gave him half credit for having a pocket pet, which for that season were both in and hot[2].

Mission Outfit[]

On missions, Ron wore a standard mission outfit of a black three-quarter sleeve mock-turtleneck shirt, grey cargo pants, brown utility belt, black or dark grey gloves, and black or dark grey sneakers.

Situational Outfits[]

Ron has several situational outfits such as cold weather gear on cold missions, his Middleton Mad Dog outfit while he was the mascot, football uniform during football games, space suit with rocket jets on the back[3] and his graduation gown[4] to name a few examples.

Personality[]

Personality-wise, Ron is the polar opposite of Kim. Like Shego, he has displayed a lack of ambition and a propensity for sarcasm towards villains like Drakken. He reacts differently from Kim in almost every situation, excels at things that she has difficulties with, and vice versa, and sees the world differently. He is probably also the most diverse person, and has displayed the most contradictions/contrasts in terms of personality and capability. He also tends to overreact to change, even when they are minor.

Ron's persona consists of three primary teen comedy/drama stereotypes:

  • A "Type B" friend to a "Type A" character
  • A "bumbling sidekick"
  • A "high school underdog"

Type B personality[]

As a Type B, Ron is primarily cheerful and upbeat, is highly resistant to most forms of peer pressure, and is largely unconcerned with appearance and fads, which he considers to be shallow and transitory. Because of this, Ron frequently serves as a counterbalance to Kim's type A personality, often encouraging her to take a step back in times where her competitive nature goes into overdrive and helping her to get things into perspective when she frets over "teen issues" such as the "food chain" and what others think of her. Kim herself often performs a similar function for Ron by motivating him, encouraging him to participate in some areas, and attempting to dampen down his enthusiasm in others.

Ron's personality is defined by ego but not in such an obvious way as type A Kim. He tends to become fixated with ideas, objects, and concepts that cannot be dislodged from his mind, even after they have proven to be flawed. Early on this usually took the form of Ron disagreeing with Kim over the intentions of a villain: for example, believing that Drakken wanted to "steal Christmas"[5], or that Señor Senior, Sr. intended to create a global shortage of miniature corn dogs[6], and primarily served as the dialogue during "covert entry" scenes. However, as Ron's personality developed, this tendency became more pronounced. It was most prominent during several missions[7][8]; during the former, Ron obsesses over the fact that Jim and Tim have replaced him as the team mascot. He did not think they could live up to his legacy and takes it too personally, to the point where he tries to become their coach. In the latter, Ron refuses to believe that eating junk food can cause health and fitness problems. He tries to disprove it by eating nothing but Bueno Nacho meals, a play on the real-world documentary Super Size Me. As a result, when his clothes start becoming tight, he attributes it to shrinkage in the laundry and he attributes his shortness of breath to a lack of clean air. However, when he grew in height, he said it was the diet he was on, not realizing that his falling into HenchCo's Titan vat was the reason.

Ron has on occasion expressed his usually hidden arrogance, which typically results from a bout of self-confidence combined with his tendency to go overboard with things. Kim once commented that Ron is "prone to big-headiness." The statement came as a result of the sudden ego boost Ron received from learning that Global Justice wished to study him over Kim because they believed that he was the reason for Team Possible's success.

Ron has also displayed considerable bouts of jealousy, especially when he feels that he does not have Kim's undivided attention. However, all of Ron's Kim-centered jealousy is entirely restricted to the instance of Kim paying attention to others over him. He has never envied her abilities, and instead offers her encouragement in the field, showing himself to be a loyal friend and later boyfriend.

Another effect of this personality type is that Ron tends to doubt himself more often than not, making himself subservient to Kim. His behavior patterns have probably been influenced by Kim's frequently overbearing and hyper-competitive Type A tendencies, causing him to back down as a trained response because he knows that Kim does not like to lose. Because he values Kim more than anything, Ron was willing to sacrifice anything for her, including his potential for greatness.

Bumbling sidekick[]

As a "bumbling sidekick", Ron is typically portrayed as being extremely loyal but also clumsy and lacking in bravery. He tends to "trip over his own feet" often in a comical or socially embarrassing ways, and during missions it is common for him to comically fail to do something that Kim has done flawlessly—for example, he might ski backward down a mountain and collide with a tree just after Kim has successfully navigated the slope. He also loses his pants often on missions. Ron rarely receives any recognition for his actions helping Kim, and other people have a hard time remembering his name, even if they've met him multiple times; Dr. Drakken has referred to him as "that guy," "the boy who always loses his pants" and most notably, "the buffoon." The only villain to consistently remember Ron's name is his archenemy, Monkey Fist. This has actually earned Ron's respect, as he tells Monkey Fist[9].

Ron's clumsiness was very pronounced, often resulting in him endangering himself or the mission, and forcing Kim to stop whatever she was currently doing to save him. However, as time progressed, his skills have become more proficient, and he has required rescuing much less frequently. Later on, much of his clumsiness primarily serves as comic relief and is portrayed as awkwardness rather than incompetence; he is often shown performing feats of physical skill and dexterity alongside Kim, albeit in an awkward and slightly panicked manner, in contrast to Kim's usually graceful and deliberate performance. Furthermore, Ron's awkwardness occasionally worked in his favor, allowing him to accomplish things through clumsiness that neither he nor Kim could through pure skill. An example of this is when Ron's panic at discovering a scorpion in his leg enabled them to discover the entrance to Drakken's secret lair.

Another long-running trait of Ron's is his sizable list of phobias. His fear of monkeys is frequently mentioned, and he has also been shown to be pathologically fearful of insects; mechanical horses[10], triggered by an accident with a coin-operated horse ride in which he lost 2 baby teeth; garden gnomes, as a result of a gnome-related tricycle accident; and many other things. Ron was often shown panicking on missions when confronted by anything threatening or dangerous. He also tended to be paranoid in some cases, a result of his childhood phobias and bad experiences.

Despite his fears, Ron usually manages to come through in the end, and by Graduation, Ron has dealt with all of them at least once, and overcome them, again, most notably his fear of monkeys. Kim's cousin Joss remarks that Ron's actions in loyally following Kim into danger despite being afraid of practically everything are a mark of true bravery.

Ron loses his pants

Ron loses his pants

Ron tends to lose his pants or even get unwittingly stripped down to his boxer shorts in some comical way. He states that this has happened so often that he is no longer embarrassed about it[11]. However, later on, he admits that he is still perturbed by the fact that this continues to happen even when he is a high school senior. Kim gives Ron a titanium-enforced belt as a "half-iversary" present, as it had been six months since they started dating, to help with "the pants thing" as it came to be known; Ron denies that he has a problem until a food cart passes him, ripping off his pants. He then admits his problem. Later on, Ron took the belt off and accidentally dropped his pants yet again, which triggered in Kim a flashback of virtually all of the times Ron lost his pants, which somewhat ironically finished healing Kim's amnesia. After the loss of his pants, Ron sometimes tends to make sarcastic comments about it, such as stating it happens "even in Japan" while at the Yamanouchi ninja school[12].

High school underdog[]

Alongside his general clumsiness, Ron does not excel in school and often appears to have difficulty grasping simple facts or concepts, even if they are spelled out to him. This is attributed to the fact he has a limited understanding of the topic or the way in which it is being discussed, or that he usually does not pay attention. Due to the nature of Ron's role, it is not always clear when this is part of his permanent persona and when it is intended purely as comic relief. Ron's problems are accentuated by his overall lack of focus and by a tendency towards laziness, which, at its most extreme, included expecting his lab partner to do all of the work because their natural motivation to succeed would compel them to pick up his slack.

While Ron often fails to understand everyday words or euphemisms, such as the phrase "fraternal twins", Ron occasionally demonstrates a slightly more advanced vocabulary than other teens, often using longer words than a person of his age might otherwise use, and maintaining the more controlled style of speech as well as reflecting complex and unusual lines of thought that slip other people's attention, including comments on Kim's statements and behavior. However, such observations by Ron only serve to further give other people the impression that he is odd and weird. These characteristics were particularly evident when Ron was younger; they are less prevalent, but still reasonably frequent.

Ron also has a tendency to hold onto childhood habits and customs, often stubbornly refusing to change despite the negative reactions of others. For example, he goes out trick-or-treating at a time when most people his age would have long ceased[13]. He does not appreciate that eating nothing but Bueno Nacho food would cause him to decline in health and physique[8]. When Monique hints that he should get a job, he does not understand even when Monique tells him that he would have "mad money"[14]. As is common for an underdog, Ron tends to have low expectations of his performance and to set low standards for himself, both academically and socially. He lacks focus and often appears to fare poorly due to either a lack of effort and a lack of belief in his own abilities, or through trying too hard and coming across as a clown.

His efforts to fit in are often hampered by the fact that he is moderately hyperactive and has a tendency to act with a pronounced level of immaturity, which has earned him a reputation as a loser among his peers. However, for the most part, Ron's type B personality means that he either does not notice this, and thus tends to embarrass those around him more than himself, or that he passes his quirks off as part of his intrinsic "Ronness" and ignores what others think. This was most evidenced when he declared his motto to "Never be normal!"[5].

Though Ron appears to become accustomed to the idea that others see him as being uncool, and usually shrugs it off, he has been known to seek acceptance from peers on several occasions, usually in an attempt to be noticed by girls with varying levels of success. Two notable occasions were when he attempted to reinvent himself during a spring break trip to Florida[15] and when he tried out for school mascot as the "Middleton Mad Dog"[16]. In the case of the former, Ron has branded a loser within a day of arriving. In the case of the latter, Ron won the crowd's acceptance but managed to upset the entire cheer squad in the process. On the occasions that Ron has achieved a level of acceptance from his peers, he usually revels in it and sometimes allows it to go to his head.

Though never directly stereotyped as being a dork/geek, he has been referred to as one on several occasions and has many typical dork/geek traits. As evidenced by his love of "cult" computer games, his occasional fascination with the science fiction and fantasy genres, and his ability to get along with Kim's geekish cousin, Larry.

Ron's personality traits were most clearly demonstrated when his school was hit by a fictional personality guide fad known as Animology, under which he is classified as being a pink sloth: a socially inept outcast and follower, who smells of overripe fruit. This, in addition to his considerable, largely trivial knowledge, combined with poor social skills, inability to understand euphemisms, refusal to accept change, and the tendency to fixate on things, has led some fans to suggest he has Asperger syndrome. During the school career fair, Ron was drawn toward food service.

Non-Judgemental[]

Ron tended to move between different cliques and social groups without showing any undue prejudice towards their various cultures.

He associated with cheerleaders such as Kim and Bonnie[17], who were the most popular girls in school, and at the same time maintained friendships with the most socially outcast nerds, Larry[18] and Ned. Ron accepted, and was accepted by, people as diverse as Monique, a social gossip and fashion guru; Wade, a super-genius shut-in; Zita, a gamer girl; and Felix, a wheelchair-bound boy. He interacted with all the above groups regularly, and never appeared to judge them or their activities as more or less worthy. In his senior year, he added the high school football team to this list, having become its star running back.

Ron's noted fearlessness in approaching different people appeared to have been a result of plenty of rejection in the past, as he had developed very tough social skin and was not especially bothered by someone refusing to associate with him. He even viewed the idea of asking out virtually every girl at school, for him to have a date for a dance, to be an entertaining challenge rather than a problem.[19]

Contrast[]

Despite usually being portrayed as being awkward, childish, distracted, and an underachiever, Ron has been shown to have hidden depth and abilities.

Among Ron's hidden talents are demonstrable creative and intellectual streaks. He wrote the song that Kim sung at the school talent contest and the "Naked Mole Rap", is a talented cook, and enjoys success in many craft-related activities, including constructing his own custom made Mad Dog head and evbe rapidly promoted to a management position during his very short-lien, trapping Gill with a net he made of lanyards, saying "Arts and Crafts is my element". He also often makes profound observations on life, society, and all kinds of logic that belie his normal portrayal as having an "uncomplicated mind", and he displayed all of the qualities needed at the Middleton Bueno Nacho. He also has a lot of other talents, such as ventriloquism or dancing, as seen in the talent show. Although this might not count as a skill, he did invent the Naco, a nacho-taco hybrid.

In addition to these talents, he sometimes undergoes periods of extreme focus or clarity, during which his personality, skills, and abilities undergo dramatic changes that allow him to perform feats that he is not usually depicted as being capable of performing. Most of these changes are in line with his role as a hero "who always comes through when the chips are down". They include:

  • Bravery: Ron was able to overcome his fears to take on the villain Gill singlehandedly[17][20]. Ron overcame both his sense of self-doubt and his fear of monkeys, to rescue Yori from Monkey Fist[12]. Upon seeing Kim in mortal danger, as well as getting a pep talk from Sensei, Ron taps into the full extent of his Mystical Monkey Powers and takes on both Warhok and Warmonga all by himself and destroys them in an amazing display of sheer bravery and heroism.
  • Agility and Sports: Ron was able to master several different extreme sport related skills that he had previously been unable to master, to infiltrate Drakken's lair and escape with Ray X[21], suffering only a single trademark pants-related incident. Ron successfully evaded both Shego and a mind-controlled Kim, even maneuvering himself so that the pair would cut his bonds, and he easily defeated experienced Yamanouchi (山ノ内) ninja Fukushima in single combat. Ron tried out for the Middleton High Football Team and it was discovered that his so-called "mad running away skills" made him a natural running back[22]. He earned Middleton High's all-time rushing record by running the entire opposing team into exhaustion after just one play, which earned him the nickname "Unstoppable Stoppable". Ron protects his baby sister Hana by quickly dispatching a couple of dozen of Monkey Fist's monkey ninjas, displaying impressive martial arts skills in the process, and manages to hold his own against Monkey Fist himself. While evil, Ron has shown amazing talent and skill while fighting an army of Wegos and quickly dispatching them.

Yet another instance of these abilities appears when Ron becomes the apprentice of Timothy North, who believes he is the character he has been playing. As for himself as the superhero, Ron foils the plot of White Stripe after the villain incapacitates Kim.

  • Flashes of inspiration/brilliance: Ron used misdirection to lure Gill into a trap. He successfully charted a way into Drakken's lair that enabled him to avoid detection, and he showed a high level of forethought in his world domination plans and technical/mechanical talent. And he was able to successfully build a "doomsday device" out of junk parts despite in the process of doing so being extremely insecure of himself and terrified by Drakken's threats.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Ron met Kim during their first day of preschool, right after naptime, and they have been firm friends ever since.

Many aspects of Ron's personality can be traced back to various traumatic events from his childhood that have been shown in a variety of flashbacks. The event, which is often referenced, was a summer that he spent in a rundown sleepaway camp, called Camp Wannaweep. During his time at camp, he called home so many times asking to leave that his mother eventually refused to accept his calls.

While at Wannaweep, Ron was bullied by other campers and forced to share an insect-infested cabin with the camp's overactive chimpanzee mascot Bobo. This led him to develop a pathological fear of monkeys and apes that has been frequently emphasized. It also caused a fear of insects and spiders that was less frequently emphasized.

It was also during his first summer at Wannaweep that Ron encountered fellow camper, Gil Moss, with whom he traded his slot on the swim schedule for a second slot in arts and crafts. Gil later returned as Gill, an angry mutant seeking revenge on Ron, whom he blamed for causing him to mutate (a result of spending all day swimming in the lake's polluted water).

Ron was first introduced to the freelance hero business when reclusive Upperton millionaire Mr. Paisley became trapped in his vault. His associate, Mr. McHenry, attempted to contact Team Impossible, a group of heroes for hire, but accidentally added a 'K', thus contacting Kim Possible instead. In A Sitch in Time, during this period, Ron, Kim, Bonnie, Hope, and Tara appear about 12 or 13 years old in appearance. Kim was also shown to have braces in her flashback in Hidden Talent, when she could not hit the high notes. Ron also referred to this period as being a preteen, around the time of their first mission or getting Rufus, whom he bought the day before their first mission, as stated in a Sitch In Time, Past.

Skills and abilities[]

Due to Ron's erratic nature, he has displayed serious contradictions and/or inconsistencies in terms of his capabilities.

Culinary Abilities[]

Ron is a talented cook, approaching chef-levels. This was likely due to the practice he had when he was eight. It is one of his abilities that almost always remains at a consistently high level.

While a sophomore in high school, Ron created the wildly successful and popular Naco while in the employ of Bueno Nacho. The Naco was so well received that within a short time, on the order of a week or less, he received enough money from its sales to buy Kim a jacket which would have cost two weeks' normal wages[23]. Then, during his junior year of high school, Ron received a $99 million royalty payment on the continued sales of the Naco up to that point in time[24].

Ron's culinary talents even earned him the role of the home economics teacher during his sophomore year of high school. Which he used to transform the home economics room into a "world-class dining" restaurant, according to Steven Barkin. His food was so good, Mr. Barkin put Ron in charge of food services for Middleton High School. Unfortunately, his tenure was cut short when the health inspector saw Rufus, a live rodent, serving food[25].

Communication with Animals[]

Ron has demonstrated an uncanny ability to actually converse with and understand several animals. Most often, this was seen in his interactions with Rufus, although it could be argued that Rufus was already, albeit unusually, communicative with others as well. Ron has, however, also shown that he could communicate very well with other animals: Chippy the monkey ninja[26], Roachie the mutated cockroach[27], and Professor Dementor's giant dachshunds[28], to name a few.

Athleticism[]

Despite Ron's typical portrayal as being clumsy and physically ineffective, he has exhibited numerous examples of exemplary athleticism. During Ron's considerable time as Kim's sidekick, he gained experience in many of the widely varied methods of transport that she did. In particular, Ron was often seen SCUBA diving[29], skydiving[30], and mountain climbing[9]. These were usually displayed alongside and overshadowed by Kim's more skillful executions, while Ron regularly bumbled his attempts, but his proficiency was much more obvious while working alone.

Ron appeared to have an often overlooked affinity for extreme sports and related activities that even he was largely unaware of. He executed a near-perfect solo infiltration of Drakken's lair in order to retrieve Ray-X, and demonstrated a fairly high amount of skill in doing so.[21]. Also, he accidentally created the extreme sport of umbrella surfing, although he could not repeat his first spectacular performance on demand.[31]

The second time that Ron tried out for the Middleton High Football Team, it was discovered that his so-called "mad running away skills" made him a natural running back. He earned the school's all-time rushing record and ran the entire opposing team into exhaustion after just one play, which earned him the nickname "Unstoppable Stoppable". In fact, according to Kim, Ron's running allowed him to break "more football records than Brick ever did"[32].

Ron bragged that he never caught germs, due to the "fortress that is the Stoppable immune system". In an odd coincidence, the one time Ron did catch a cold, despite being around Kim and her brothers, who all had colds at the time, Ron caught a cold from Shego, who herself possessed superhuman endurance and resiliency. Therefore, the argument could be made that Ron only got sick because Shego was one of the few people who could successfully pass a cold onto him.[21]

The Ron Factor[]

Ron rarely received any recognition for his helping Kim, until Global Justice scientists hypothesized the true secret to Kim's success was an intangible talent/element which Ron was thought to possess, which they dubbed as "The Ron Factor". It supposedly allowed him to achieve results through a series of apparently random mishaps that would otherwise require great skill to accomplish. According to Wade, the Ron Factor could have been a product of non-linear mathematical concepts, also known as Chaos Theory. Initially, Global Justice believed The Ron Factor was the secret to Team Possible's success, and they researched it heavily for a short period, hoping to harness it themselves. They were unable to isolate it, so Global Justice eventually concluded that it did not exist, or at least that it was a "non-factor", though at the time they began researching the possible existence of "The Rufus Factor" instead.[33]

Despite Global Justice's conclusion, there was considerable evidence suggesting The Ron Factor, or as Ron once termed it, "Not dumb luck, Kim. Dumb skills"[34], may have been both real and even exploitable under the proper circumstances. Shego realized that Kim was most effective as an adversary when working side by side with Ron. She then hatched a plan to separate them, thus severely hampering Kim's ability to thwart her adversaries. This separation weakened Team Possible greatly, to the point where Shego was able to take over the world[35].

Mystical Monkey Power[]

During their first encounter with the villain Monkey Fist, Ron and Rufus were exposed to mystical energy from four jade monkey statues, which imbued them with "Mystical Monkey Power". The most immediate consequence of this exposure was an instinctive, but incomplete knowledge of "Tai Sheng Pek Kwar" (大圣劈挂, translates to "The big saint divides hangs") as well as superhuman speed and strength, most commonly referred to as Monkey Kung Fu. Ron immediately proved capable of temporarily holding his own against Monkey Fist, while Rufus displayed considerably increased strength.

Oddly enough, Ron's new powers were in no way a constant occurrence in his life. They were almost absent from his adventures for some time. Rufus, however, proved capable of incredible feats during this time, such as chomping through a steel grate with ease, which implied that Ron simply was not using his gifts, possibly due to his then still overwhelming fear of virtually anything monkey-related. Additionally, during the same adventure, Ron was prophesied to one day become "The Ultimate Monkey Master", and the Monkey Ninjas recognized him as their leader.

Ron was later selected to attend the Yamanouchi Ninja School in Japan, apparently because destiny linked him to it. While there, Ron was trained as a ninja, and finally began to sharpen the martial arts skills he had been given[36]. He was also introduced to the Lotus Blade, a shape-shifting sword that responded to those touched by Mystical Monkey Power. Ron rescued both fellow student Yori and the stolen Lotus Blade from Monkey Fist, and channeled Mystical Monkey Power for the first time in a feat of superhuman strength.

Ron's powers were not explicitly shown again for some time. During a battle with Team Impossible, this was even commented on. Dash DaMont was surprised by Ron not fighting at all, believing Ron was supposed to be "some master of Monkey Kung Fu". Ron sheepishly replied, "You know, it's funny. It comes and goes".

Ron once again found himself aiding Yamanouchi against Monkey Fist, attempting to defend the school from an impending attack. Monkey Fist had summoned the dark avatar Yono, and desired to unite him with his counterpart, The Han, to obtain world dominance. This counterpart was revealed to be Hana Stoppable, Ron's adopted baby sister who had secretly been placed with his family by Yamanouchi. Ron's inadvertent teachings kept Hana safe and led to Monkey Fist's final defeat, as had been Master Sensei's hope all along.

Ron finally realized his fated destiny when, during his graduation from high school, Kim and Drakken were kidnapped by the Lorwardian aliens Warhok and Warmonga. Ron rescued them with Shego's help, but eventually found himself alone and overwhelmed by Warhok's strength. Warhok then threatened to separate Kim from Ron for good, which caused Ron to consciously tap into his Mystical Monkey Power for the first time. In the battle that followed, Ron displayed an unsafe work environment[37].

During a different mission[38], he was also able to avoid serious harm while being pursued by both Kim and Shego at the same time. Moments after being engaged, he quickly used them to free his restrained arms, which had been tied behind his back, and positioned them so that the pair would cut his bonds.

While time-traveling[39], he single-handedly defeated a super-strong Drakken by hurling him across the room from trying to make him stay back when he angrily walked close to Shego and destroyed the Time Monkey by unintentionally causing a series of pillars to topple like dominoes. Considering that Kim could not defeat the genetically-enhanced Drakken on her own, his great anger at that time from learning that it was because of Future Shego and her time traveling, was the reason he was separated from Kim, moved to Norway, and been forced to eat Meat Cakes, likely caused him to tap into his Mystical Monkey Powers and use his super-strength from that to defeat Drakken and Shego.

The Lowardians proved to be no match for him in this state and were quickly defeated. Master Sensei recognized Ron as the Supreme Monkey Master.

Combat Skills[]

Despite Kim being the primary combatant on their missions, Ron has displayed some impressive combat skills.

Ron has repeatedly proven capable of defending himself from foes generally considered to be far superior to him in combat, such as Monkey Fist[36] and his Monkey Ninjas[40], Shego, and even a mind-controlled Kim during various incidents of her being mind-controlled.[38] He also manage to fight Gil when he transform himself into a beaver.[20]

Ron's week spent training at the Yamanouchi Ninja School in Japan[12] resulted in noticeable increase in his offensive effectiveness, particularly in the area of martial arts, which served him well in later adventures.[41] Ron even proved capable of defeating large groups of opponents, and overwhelming the synthodrone Eric with blows that would have been fatal on a normal opponent.[42]. Ron was also proving to be stronger than he looks thanks to his super strength from his mystical monkey power, as he was able to single-handedly hurled a super-strong Drakken at a considerable distance with the proper anger and motivation, although Ron may have tapped into his Mystical Monkey Power in his moment of anger to pull off this feat [35], and hurled Warmonga and Warhok into the air directly into the path of their disintegrating mother ship.

Ron proved to be extremely naturally resilient and was rarely ever seriously wounded despite some major mishaps. Some more notable examples included being hurled by a super-strong Drakken, blasted by Shego's plasma, and being punched by the Lorwardian Warhok, whose strength is far surpassed that of any human.[3] Ron's resilience was even before he gained Mystical Monkey Power, though as it increased his strength on occasion, presumably it had a similar impact on his already impressive resilience.

In addition to purely physical abilities, Ron has exhibited an incredible ability to win fights through situational awareness, cunning, and subterfuge. Through the usage of traps, Ron defeated Gill without having to resort to a physical confrontation[17]. Ron was able to get rid of Drakken's henchmen by exploiting their paranoia about their unsafe work environment[37]. He was also able to avoid serious harm while being pursued by both Kim and Shego while they were both mind-controlled at the same time. Moments after being engaged, he quickly used them to free his restrained arms, which had been tied behind his back and positioned them so that they interfered with each other's efforts.[38]

Intelligence[]

Ron's intelligence has varied greatly throughout the years, most often appearing to be that of the underachieving student he typically behaved as, but sometimes far surpassing both the expectations of others and himself.

Ron was an articulate, observant child able to comprehend concepts too complex for the average children of his age[43].

While it was common for Ron's grades to be both shown and commented on as ranging from average to bad[44], Ron was still continually shown to be in the same classes as Kim[45], the class valedictorian Felix Renton, and known genius Justine Flanner. However, this may have been due in part to his usually partnering up with Kim or another Grade-A average student on major projects.[46]

Ron successfully planned a mission which retrieved Ray X from Drakken's lair while Kim was home sick[21].

Ron was able to successfully build a "doomsday device" out of junk parts despite being extremely insecure of his abilities and terrified by Drakken's threats[44].

Perhaps the most pronounced display of Ron's intelligence was when The Attitudinator caused him to temporarily turn evil. While evil, Ron created a series of increasingly sophisticated weapons, ranging from a mechanical device to fling mashed potatoes to an all-terrain plasma catapult and a weather generator capable of instantly controlling the weather on a global scale. While some fans have theorized that this could be attributed to Drakken's personality transfer, it was later shown that the Attitudinator could turn Ron evil without having anything to do with Drakken when Electronique used a slightly modified version to turn Ron back into his evil persona. Also, Drakken admitted that he was never able to build weapons as powerful as Ron's so it's also likely that the evil transferred gave Ron focus and direction for his inherent intelligence[47].

Skilled Tactician/Strategist[]

Ron often uses situational awareness, cunning, and subterfuge to win battles. He defeated Gil by setting traps instead of engaging in physical combat. Ron also outsmarted Drakken's henchmen by exploiting their paranoia and avoided serious harm while being pursued by both Kim and Shego (while they were being mind-controlled). He cleverly used their efforts to free his restrained arms and interfered with their attempts to capture him.

Skilled Inventor[]

While Ron is not good with tools as Kim and Wade pointed out in "Bad Boy", Ron manage to created a series of increasingly sophisticated weapons, ranging from a mechanical device to fling mashed potatoes to an all terrain plasma catapult and a weather generator capable of instantly controlling the weather on a global scale. Even after cured of the Attitudinator's effects, Ron manage to use the broken pieces to make his cousin Shaun nicer to him.

Supervillainy[]

To everyone's amazement, Ron turns out to be a natural at supervillainy, creating several cutting-edge superweapons and also using much of the technology in Drakken's lair more effectively than Drakken ever has. Shego is so impressed that she abandons Drakken so Ron can become her new boss. However, Ron reveals that he has found a shield in Drakken's things that protects him from Shego's powers if she gets angry, and threatens to dump her in with sharks. Shego backed down. Something she rarely did with Drakken.

With the transformation complete, Ron made a double play for world domination. Using one villainous scheme as a decoy to prevent Kim from interfering with his true plan, he attempted to disrupt the world's weather to force the global community to surrender its supply of "nacos". Evil Ron was eventually stopped by Drakken, at the time freed of his dark side, who placed a newly repaired "Attitudinator" on Ron's head, restoring both of them to their original selves once more. Something Good Drakken realized he had a responsibility to do because "it's better that I'm bad than if he's bad."

Ron's villainous alter ego did not surface again during Season 3. However, the "Zorpox" personality makes a brief reappearance in "Stop Team Go", again under the influence of the Attitudinator, where he proceeded to battle the likewise temporarily-evil Team Go, showing amazing martial arts abilities while defeating a small army of Wegos, and helping to defeat Electronique. It is possible that while evil, Ron has access to more of his suppressed abilities, and may be able to consciously use the Mystical Monkey Powers due to his overconfidence while evil.

Evil Ron is one of several hints dropped during the show's run that his constant bumbling and failures stem less from actual incompetence and clumsiness than from his lack of focus and, more importantly, his lack of confidence. Since Drakken seemed to retain his mad scientist inventing and engineering skills when his evil was transferred to Ron, Ron may possess untapped potential as an engineer and inventor himself. An example of this is in the episode "Naked Genius", when Ron is kidnapped and forced to make a functioning doomsday device out of everyday equipment, however, the fact that Ron is amazed that the device actually works indicates than Ron did not consciously design or build it to be so, suggesting it may simply be a "fluke", or another expression of the non-factor "Ron Factor".

Awareness of the Fourth Wall[]

In the end credits scene of the Season 4 episode "Grande Size Me", Ron is in Middleton High's hallway as he speaks to the audience, whom he refers to as "kids", "to get serious about an important subject: short-term genetic mutation." Other characters, including Kim, Monique, and Mr. Barkin, appear in the hallway as he talks, wondering aloud who he is talking to. After Ron finishes with a summary of "Keep your DNA intact and stay un-mutated. You'll be glad you did!", Barkin closes the episode saying "Stoppable! Office, now!" It is uncertain whether Rufus' concurring remarks during this speech confirm his awareness of the fourth wall or if they were only to try and encourage Ron in whatever he was doing, as is often seen throughout the show.

Equipment[]

  • Super Cycle: In Bad Boy, Ron upgraded his old tricycle to a giant motorcycle vehicle, which he used to literally crash the wedding rehearsal. Ron then use a remote to transform his vehicle into a Plasma Catapult to attack his cousin Shaun.
  • Utility Belt: When Ron first turned evil, he found a belt that originally belonged to Drakken and assumed he probably had no idea how to use it. It can generate a force-field/shield made of energy that is strong enough to withstand and deflect Shego's energy blast. Ron then presses a button on his belt that opens up a shark tank behind where Shego is standing and asks her if she knows that sidekicks need to know their place. It is unknown what happened to the belt, but it is assumed by many fans that Ron gave this belt to Wade, and it was one of the functions of Kim's battlesuit, but with a different force-field.
  • Attitudinator: After being turned good again, Ron displayed some of Drakken's intelligence to repair the Attitudinator and turn his cousin Shaun good.
  • Anti-Anti-Matter Bubble: In Mathter and Fervent, Mr. Possible made an anti-anti-matter bubble because he was tuned into an anti-matter being by the Mather.
  • Blue grappling hook gun
  • Scooter for low speed travel around Middleton
  • Bicycle[16]
  • Sled[48]
  • "Blaster Briefs", a pair of briefs that functioned as a rocket pack, used alongside Kim's rocket skates. Presumably, Wade designed them as well and chose briefs as opposed to skates or pants because Ron's pants were repeatedly lost or dropped during missions, so there was a high chance that his pants would get tangled up in rocket skates. The briefs eliminated this problem by blasting Ron entirely out of his pants, anyway.[30]

Although Ron was unaware of it, Wade had him micro-chipped at some point for tracking purposes. This was used primarily to help Kim find Ron if he went missing[16], and for some reason did not have his pager, which Wade could also track if needed.[49] Though the microchip became something of a private joke between Kim and Wade, it proved useful several times. It was hinted that Ron may, in fact, know about the microchip, or at least, suspect it[15]. While never shown on screen, Kim may have told Ron about the microchip after they became a couple.[15][47]

Quotes[]

  • "Boo-yah!"
  • "That is sick and wrong!"
  • "This goes beyond sick and wrong. It's wrong sick."
  • "That would be so cool, if it wasn't going to hurt us."

Relationships[]

Family[]

Ron was the only natural child of a Jewish family. His father was an actuary, and his mother had an unspecified job. They later adopted a baby girl, Hana Stoppable, who became Ron's younger sister.

Several of Ron's insecurities and fears could be traced back to some fairly questionable treatment by his parents over the years. While they cared about him, they repeatedly did not consider his feelings or likely reactions while they made life-altering decisions. Most notably, they had a bad habit of simply making big decisions, such as Hana's adoption, and only informing Ron either as they were happening, or after the changes had already been made, giving him no chance to adjust. This was presumably why Ron often proved extremely reluctant and resistant to unexpected changes in his normal routine.

Mr. Stoppable[]

Although not particularly close, Ron still appeared more comfortable with his father than his mother. They did not seem to spend much time together, likely due to extremely different interests, but Mr. Stoppable was eager to be part of Ron's life and to be seen as Ron's hero. As an actuary, Mr. Stoppable tended to give Ron fairly down-to-earth advice, though Ron was not always able to appreciate it at the time. Ron did occasionally ask him for advice, but more often went to other male role models, such as Mr. Barkin or Dr. James Possible. Though rarely seen, Mr. Stoppable could be very protective of Ron, at least where villains mistreating Ron was concerned.

Mrs. Stoppable[]

Mrs. Stoppable was typically portrayed as being the stricter parent, and as a result, she and Ron did not seem especially close at times. Most notably, she had very little patience for some of Ron's more pronounced personality quirks: Ron had to suffer through the horrors of Camp Wannaweep as a child because his mother stopped accepting his frequent requests by phone to come home. She also swore off helping him with school projects due to an unexplained "paper machete" incident, although Ron's habitual laziness where major projects were concerned was more than likely a factor. She did, however, attempt to comfort Ron when he doubted whether or not he was truly a man.

One possible explanation for Mrs. Stoppable's typical treatment of Ron is that she may have wanted a daughter rather than a son. When Ron was eight years old, she gave him a Granny Crocket Quickie-Bake Mixer and Oven set, which contributed to his excellent cooking skills. For Mother's Day, rather than wanting to spend time with her son, Mrs. Stoppable instead demanded that he clean the garage in order to make her happy. Indeed, Mrs. Stoppable was very pleased when she and her husband finally adopted a baby girl, Hana. In addition, she was very happy and touched when Ron showed a genuine interest in wanting to take care of and spend time with Hana.

Hana Stoppable[]

Ron's status as an only child ended during his Senior year, when his parents adopted a baby girl named Hana. Partially because Ron received no warning whatsoever of this major change, he was extremely upset and refused to accept Hana as his sister. Eventually, however, he grew to see her as part of the family and matured into a very protective and devoted big brother.

Other Relatives[]

Ron also had several other relatives who made brief appearances:

  • Shaun: Shaun was a bad-tempered younger cousin who took great joy in tormenting Ron and Rufus. Ron particularly dreaded getting stuck with him at family functions.
  • Reuben Stoppable: Reuben Stoppable, a cousin Ron apparently did like, at least by comparison.
  • Jon Stoppable: Jon Stoppable, a turn-of-the-century Middleton police constable and Ron's great-grandfather. While his exploits have been questionable mainly due to being from a shared dream and a fictitious memory, a float of his head featured in the Middleton Pickle Days parade established Jon's existence as real, if not the events of the dream.
  • Ronacus: Ronacus, a gladiator hero seen as a stone statue at the Tri-City Museum, which supposedly could have been an ancestor of Ron's. Unfortunately, details lost to time prevent establishing anything beyond a strong resemblance.

Pets[]

Rufus[]

When Ron was about twelve years old, he was allowed to have a pet so long as it did not irritate his father's allergies to virtually every kind of pet hair. Ron purchased a naked mole rat, Rufus, from a Smarty Mart. Ron carried Rufus almost constantly in his pocket from then on, and considered him more a member of the family than a pet.

Friends and allies[]

Kim Possible[]

Ron met Kim in Pre-K, and the two have been best friends ever since. This strong friendship was unusual for them both. Ron consistently had trouble connecting with others and girls, especially, while most of Kim's friends were female, presumably because boys found either her or her father to be intimidating. These obstacles did not apply to each other, as Ron was a constant and welcome visitor in the Possible home, and Kim was amused rather than annoyed by Ron's weirdness. Their friendship survived some very serious tests, such as Kim initially siding with her fellow cheerleaders against Ron becoming their high school mascot, Ron falsifying a news article about Kim liking Brick Flagg to gain fame, and a brief falling out based on Ron being promoted over Kim during their time working at Bueno Nacho.

Through everything, even if momentarily sidetracked, Ron and Kim ultimately valued their loyalty to each other above all else. Their bond was no doubt strengthened through Ron's role as Kim's sidekick. Repeatedly having faced danger and potentially death side-by-side, Ron and Kim saved each other's lives a number of times, and came to depend on each other as partners as well as friends, which by their senior year grew to a more romantic relationship. This relationship was frequently tried by Ron's social ineptness, but had ultimately survived through their Graduation from high school.

Wade[]

Wade and Ron were good friends. Ron eagerly looked forward to any chance to meet Wade in person and was always greatly disappointed when Wade canceled at the last minute. He also enjoyed playing with Wade's gadgets, despite how often this habit backfired, due to Ron either not waiting for instructions on proper use or just generally being clumsy. Wade also had no problem with helping Ron outside of missions, such as getting him and Kim a table at the exclusive Chez Couteaux.

Monique[]

Ron initially felt threatened by Monique. This was largely because he learned after the fact that she had met and befriended Kim. His unease grew when Kim began to spend notably less time with him to hang out with Monique, and showed an increased interest in things she had in common with Monique, but not with Ron. However, Monique and Ron eventually discovered that they had things in common as well, and Ron's unease around her vanished.

Because Monique filled the unique role of Kim's closest female friend, she was often the person Kim would vent to if Ron had done something notable to annoy or embarrass her. But as Ron's friend as well, this also gave Monique the chance to attempt to help him correct the behavior, even though she, in turn, was usually annoyed by Ron's habit of being slow to change.

Felix Renton[]

Felix was one of the few close friends that Ron had outside of his friendship with Kim. Unlike many people, Ron did not see Felix being in a wheelchair as a handicap, and treated him essentially as he would any other friend. Felix was also considerate of Ron's friendship with Kim, and the two boys generally extended an invitation to her if they had made plans together.

The Possible Family[]

Due to the enormous amount of time Ron, and Rufus, spent with Kim, he is very comfortable with her entire family, mostly at their house. Ron is regularly present at their family dinners, events, and vacations often with neither of Kim's parents having known he was coming ahead of time, but always including him as Kim's "plus one" with ease despite that. He was treated as a member of the family, and was therefore given a great deal more warmth and trust, especially where his considerable time with Kim was concerned, than any other boy would normally be given.

Ron was also a fairly frequent volunteer at Middleton Medical Center as a Sunshine Spreader, a volunteer patient caregivers. He seemed to have a vague but genuine interest in both rocket science and nursing. Ron and Rufus also often regularly spend their time watching TV with Kim's younger twin brothers, Jim and Tim.

Mentors[]

Steven Barkin[]

Mr. Barkin's "tough but fair" policy rarely seemed to apply in his treatment of Ron, who he initially appeared to greatly dislike for no obvious reason. Ron claimed this was due to a funny look he gave Barkin in ninth grade, which Barkin himself confirmed. However, it gradually became more obvious that while Barkin was indeed especially tough on Ron, this was done largely in an attempt to further educate and mold him into a more well-rounded student. Conveniently enough, Barkin, having to take over nearly every class that Ron was in, and then later discovering they were colleagues at Smarty Mart, gave him plenty of opportunities to do so. Barkin was easily frustrated by some of Ron's bad habits, such as his tendency to ignore or forget certain school rules, and a certain lack of respect for Barkin's authority on some issues.

Their relationship eventually progressed to the point where Ron viewed Barkin as something of a mentor, and occasionally went to him for advice when troubled.

Master Sensei[]

Though they did not spend much time together, Master Sensei of the Yamanouchi Ninja School was the mentor that Ron was most relaxed around. The two shared an easy, unspoken bond of mutual respect and friendship. Beyond that, Master Sensei always believed in and encouraged Ron's hidden potential, especially when Ron himself doubted its existence.

Martin Smarty[]

Ron idolized Martin Smarty, both as a highly successful businessman and as the founder of Smarty Mart, Ron's favorite store. As thanks for saving him from a kidnapping attempt, Mr. Smarty gave Ron a job in the pet department at the Smarty Mart in Middleton. Ron left a lasting impression as a dedicated and hard-working employee, and Mr. Smarty later introduced Ron to his son Artie in the hopes of exposing Artie to a positive role model.

Love Interest[]

Shego[]

Ron once considered Shego to be very attractive when he first saw her as a wanted criminal in "Tick-Tick-Tick", and once even told her, "You know, in this light, you're kinda cute"[39]. Eventually, however, Ron dissuades himself from thinking Shego is attractive, due to all the times she tried to hurt him and Kim, and because she's a lot older than him.

Zita Flores[]

Zita was the first girl Ron was seen dating, and was likely his first girlfriend. Ron went to great lengths to pursue and impress her, and though this repeatedly backfired, Zita seemed to genuinely like him for the most part. She admitted to being annoyed that Ron considered their frequent meetings at Bueno Nacho to be dates. Worthy of note was that Kim did not consider Zita a threat to her friendship with Ron, nor were Ron and Zita regularly affectionate with each other. The relationship did not seem to last long, and Ron's feelings on the matter were never mentioned. Zita was later implied to be in a relationship with Ron's best male friend Felix Renton during their high school graduation.

Amelia[]

Ron's attraction to Amelia was based on her looks and popularity. Rather fittingly, those were also the only conditions under which she was attracted to Ron, and much like her feelings, those times were fleeting at best. Most notably, Ron did not exist in her eyes until he had money to spend on her, considerable influence within the school's social scene, or drastically altered his appearance to better fit in. Curiously, according to Animology, Ron's pink sloth was the soulmate to Amelia's red otter.

Tara[]

Tara is the most well-known of Ron's love interests, except for Kim and Yori. Tara is one of the many girls who gazed at Ron during his remake[50].

Unlike the others, she saw Ron's true self afterwards, and she liked what she saw. Another indication that Tara liked Ron was seen in "Number One", where Bonnie buys new cheerleading outfits to win the team over; Tara refers to the uniforms as "badical", a term which Ron is more known for using. By the time of "Sink or Swim", Tara's crush on Ron became extremely visible.

Unlike the other cheerleaders, she never scolded or frowned at Ron for his antics and eccentric behavior, though she could be placed off by them. Also unlike the other cheerleaders, Tara seemed to find Ron to be a sweet and funny person, which caused her to develop feelings for him. These feelings, however, nearly vanished when Ron seemingly abandoned her, Kim, and the rest of the cheer squad when they were trapped by Gill at Camp Wannaweep. Believing he had left them to be mutated, Tara scornfully cursed Ron as a "ditcher" and frowned when it seemed he was fleeing by boat to safety. After Ron defeated Gill and rescued the cheerleading squad from being turned into mutants, Tara's feelings for Ron returned, and she even kissed him on the cheek as a sign of her gratitude. That was the first kiss seen on the show. Presumably, because Ron was unaware of Tara's feelings and therefore showed no interest, she moved on. Ron only learned about Tara's former crush on him after she had started dating Josh Mankey, who likewise had grown apart from Kim. Despite this, Tara and Ron remained on friendly terms.

Bonnie Rockwaller[]

Bonnie typically showed open disdain towards Ron, both because he was at the bottom of the school popularity food chain, and because he was Kim's best friend. Despite this, he did not seem to hold a grudge against her for the most part, and typically treated her either as a friend or a potential girlfriend, much to Bonnie's annoyance. He did, however, respect Kim's rivalry with her, and occasionally helped Kim compete with Bonnie on various stages.

Bonnie was very much aware of Ron's attraction to her, and exploited it when the situation suited her, both as a way of using Ron and angering Kim in the process. Bonnie briefly became Ron's girlfriend when she found out he was rich, though this was only as long as he bought her expensive things. Bonnie also rigged the homecoming vote so she replaced Kim as queen. As Ron had seemingly been genuinely voted king, this effectively made them the "royal couple", which Bonnie took great pleasure in rubbing in Kim's face. In truth, Bonnie had only been depressed and lonely over her recent break-up with Brick Flagg, and gladly returned to insulting Ron once she found new love with Señor Senior, Junior.

Yori[]

Ron was attracted to Yori from the moment he first met her. He spent much of their time together trying to impress her, and while the results were mixed at best, Yori was attracted to him as well. Ron was not aware that Yori's feelings for him had progressed beyond friendship until Kim told him. The next time they saw each other, Ron and Kim had recently begun dating, which Yori surprisingly accepted with good grace. As a result, she remained on good terms with both Ron and Kim, considering them trusted friends and dependable allies.

Kim Possible[]

Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable

Kim and Ron embracing each other.

Ron first met Kim in Pre-K, and the two have been best friends ever since.

Throughout the series, it was hinted quite regularly that Kim and Ron would eventually come to date each other. This was made fun of in the episode "Bad Boy", in which Kim and Ron, while watching a soap opera, say "Oh, please! Are they still teasing that Charity and Danny are gonna get together?" "Like that's ever gonna happen, it would end the series!" Little awkward moments between the two became common during their multi-gender relationship. One example of this is that Kim first kissed Ron on the cheek under a mistletoe in "A Very Possible Christmas". The directors of the show, as stated in an interview, had chosen to couple Kim and Ron to impart the moral, "give geeks a chance." Kim and Ron had a very durable friendship before their romantic involvement in "So the Drama". This is suspected by some fans to be a type of maxim, communicating the idea that a strong friendship should first precede a relationship. Eventually, Kim and Ron began dating. It was believed by some fans the addition of the element of romance would be a positive thing, although some others were opposed to it and feared it might cause the show to jump the shark (during the episode "Ill Suited" the show refers to this when Ron asks Kim if she had ever water skied over a shark, as in a dream he had). Schooley and McCorkle noted the potential risk, admitting that while Kim and Ron's blossoming love gave them a chance to do something new with the characters, the relationship had to be handled delicately to avoid turning the series stale. In the episode "Clean Slate", Kim acknowledged that she loved Ron. The fact of her potential, yet unrealized death, spurred him to destroy their adversaries in "Graduation", illustrating the possibility that this love is mutual; it heavily implies Kim and Ron's relationship will endure.

Enemies[]

Monkey Fist[]

Ron had a bad intuitive feeling about Lord Monty Fiske within minutes of meeting him, which Kim promptly ignored as one of Ron's usual baseless hunches. In this case, however, Ron was extremely right as Fiske would go on to become Monkey Fist, one of Team Possible's most dedicated and difficult foes. Monkey Fist was unique among their enemies in that he not only remembered Ron's name but also focused his hatred on Ron fairly consistently. Likewise, Ron also hated Monkey Fist due mostly to his overwhelming fear of and discomfort around nonhuman primates and especially monkeys, which Monkey Fist both emulated and envied.

Ron even considered Monkey Fist to be his arch foe, and their encounters tended to be especially heated. Monkey Fist made no secret of his desire to kill Ron and those around him, and Ron felt a personal responsibility to handle him, whether Kim was present or not. However, aside from his first skirmish with Fiske and a slap-fight, Ron never fought him one-on-one, usually tangling with the monkey ninjas or displaying his "mad running away skills". Ron did, however, have a hand in successfully training his little sister Hana, the one to eventually best Monkey Fist, which led to his permanent defeat. The only villain to consistently remember Ron's name was his archenemy, Monkey Fist. earning Ron's respect, as he tells Monkey Fist.

Gill[]

Gil Moss was a bully during Ron's childhood summer stay at Camp Wannaweep. Ron was reluctant to go swimming in the lake, the waters of which he considered suspicious, and Gil was only too eager to swap places on the roster with him. Gil's constant exposure to the toxic water eventually triggered a mutation, turning him into a Black Lagoon-like humanoid "muck monster". Gil blamed his mutation on Ron and harbored a deep-seated hatred for him. Gil eventually began calling himself Gill, and devoted much of his time to planning revenge against Ron. However, Gill eventually came to see his mutation as a blessing, and while he still held Ron responsible for it, he put aside much of his hatred to pursue the goal of turning everyone else, with Ron included, into mutants like himself.

Fukushima[]

Ron displayed arguably his greatest example of monkey kung fu in his battle with Fukushima. Throughout the episode, Fukushima taunted and humiliated Ron, referring to him as "Outsider" and constantly trying to cause him injury. During the first encounter between them, Ron was able to hold his own in a staff sparring session with them.

In the second, Fukushima's blows constantly missed the dodging Ron who used his famous leg twist to bring down Fukushima, catching and flinging him when he launched himself at Ron and finally causing a minor earthquake with his Mystical Monkey Powers to bring down icicles and trap Fukushima taunting him with "It was my honor to defeat you!"

Dr. Drakken[]

Ron and Dr. Drakken had several encounters while Kim and Shego were busy fighting, and one thing almost always remained constant: Drakken could not seem to recall Ron's name, no matter how often Ron reminded him. On the other hand, both Ron and Kim forgot Drakken's name within minutes of meeting him, so there was some room for debate on whether Drakken's failure to remember Ron was genuine. Though this generally annoyed Ron, he would eagerly and happily reintroduce himself when given the slightest opportunity. Drakken did at least recognize Ron on sight, and habitually referred to him as "the buffoon". Ron did eventually force Drakken to recall his name, but only the one time. In "So the Drama", when Ron prevents Drakken's escape, incensed at him for using Bueno Nacho as a pawn in his "L'il Diablo" scheme. Drakken fears for his safety, knowing full well that Ron is capable of beating him up if he wants to, and Ron even managed to get him to finally say his name, although after that, he forgot his name as always.

During Christmas[51], the two of them got into a long standing battle which resulted in Drakken being unable to go the distance with him, eventually the two settled their differences to keep the spirit of Snowman Hank the wise snowman alive and celebrate Christmas together, with the Possible Family and Shego.

During the Lowardian Invasion, the two worked together, and Ron allowed Drakken to ride on his back as they flew through the Lowardian Mothership, though Ron complained about it. Drakken missed Ron saving the world with his Mystical Monkey Power, which Shego commented that "you had to be there" rather than explaining to him.

Shego[]

As one of Kim's most frequently fought adversaries, Shego regularly ran into Ron, but considered him little more than a momentary distraction, or just as often, someone she generally captured with little effort. While Ron was afraid of Shego and the harm she could potentially inflict on him, they still managed to joke around with each other, sometimes even as she was attempting to hurt him. Ron also seemed to have a brief attraction to Shego when he first saw her as a wanted criminal in one of the first season episodes.

Although Ron and Shego never really fight against each other, they do see each other as enemies. Shego, much like Drakken, often does not call Ron by his name, merely calling him "the sidekick"; it is unclear if either that she also cannot remember his name or if she just does not care saying it. Nevertheless, Ron seems to fear Shego to a degree, and it seems Shego does not even bother with him due to his bumbling personality.

Ron has earned Shego's respect and even fear at certain points. Such as when Ron's anger over having him moved to Norway and eating Meat Cakes, and the destruction of Bueno Nacho, which made Shego show fear for a moment for the first time in the confrontation[39], and in "Bad Boy", when he was able to keep her from constantly being sarcastic by threatening to dump her in a shark tank when he was Evil Ron, genuinely scaring her into submission.

When Shego was turned good by the Attitudinator, Ron felt left out when she and Kim bonded as friends, leading him to admit to Rufus that he misses the old Shego.[52]

When Kim and Drakken got adducted by Warmonga and Warhok's spaceship, Ron and Shego worked together and go into space to save them and stop the alien warriors from conquering the earth. In the end, when Ron saved the world and defeated Warmonga and Warhok using his Mystical Monkey Power, Shego was shocked and impressed, commenting that "The sidekick just stepped up, monkey-style."[3]

Alternate Versions[]

Ron's physical appearance, like Kim's, has remained static, not changing to represent aging. Though he does occasionally undergo a transformation that changes his physical appearance, those changes are usually reversed. There have also been several different versions of Ron to represent various points in his life, such as Toddler, Pre-Teen/Tween, and Baby.

We first saw pre-k Ron in a flashback to his time at Camp Wannaweep[17], where he had to share a cabin with a tick-infested chimp named Bobo, and the other campers bullied him. We also see him in a flashback to Kim and Ron's first Halloween together. Kim was dressed as a cowboy while Ron was dressed as a Ballerina[53]. We later see him again when Drakken, Shego, Monkey Fist, and Duff Killigan use the Tempus Simia, also known as the Time Monkey, to travel back in time to destroy Kim Possible's spirit. We also saw a Pre-Teen version of him as well.

We first see Baby Ron when he was aged regressed by Nanny Maim's Machine.

Evil Ron[]

Due to a collision while Dr. Drakken was wearing Hencho's Attitudinator helmet, Ron was exposed to Drakken's evil energy. Through unspecified means, this caused Ron to become increasingly evil and eccentric, as he also took on Drakken's blue skin color and adopted the costume of the fictional comic book villain Zorpox. Evil Ron possessed in abundance several traits that Ron was also noted to have, but rarely displayed: he was a skilled strategist, incredibly talented at Tai Shing Pek Kwar Monkey Kung-Fu, and capable of building large-scale doomsday devices and highly advanced technology with surprising ease. His in-depth knowledge of Kim's behavior made him one of her most dangerous foes, as he not only knew how best to stop her, but presumably that she would be equally effective if turned evil in the same manner that he was.[47]>

There were two theories about Evil Ron's advanced capabilities, particularly his intelligence:

  1. When the Attitudinator transferred Drakken's badness to Ron, it also transferred a portion of his genius level intellect. This explained why Evil Ron was suddenly better with tools when Ron rarely ever showed such skill. However, this did not explain how Ron was able to repair the Attitudinator after he was reformed. It also does not explain how, as Shego observed, Ron turned out to be Drakken's superior in technological ability.
  2. Ron always had the potential to do great things, but he was repressed by his social anxiety. When he became Evil Ron, he lost his inhibitions, which enabled him to unlock his potential without fear. This was the preferred theory, as he was also unable to use his mystical monkey powers unless motivated enough to do so. Also, Ron showed a natural ability for destruction even when he was not evil, showing his talent for the dark side.

Trivia[]

  • According to the Animology Test, Ron is a Pink Sloth.
    • His "soulmate" is a Red Otter, of which Amelia is one.
  • Out of all the villains Ron has encountered and fought, including those without Kim, only five can remember his full name correctly, mainly those who have mentioned his name at least three times:
  1. Monkey Fist
  2. Gill
  3. Señor Senior, Senior
  4. Gemini
  5. Adrena Lynn
  • Only Monkey Fist and Gill, being Ron's two main enemies, remember his name full-time and never forget it at all, not even once. Most of the other villains who forget his name call him by his last name, "Stoppable", at least once.
    • Even though Drakken forgets Ron's name, he called him by his last name twice, but the second time was when Ron forced him to say one of his two names, mainly his last name, "Stoppable". But most of the time, Drakken calls Ron "sidekick", since he's Kim's sidekick. Despite forgetting Ron's name completely, Drakken once only said Ron's first and last name together. And that was the only time where he also once called him "Mr. Stoppable".
      • Oddly enough, Dr. Drakken, Dr. Lurkin, Duff Killigan, and Franklin Barkin, Mr. Barkin's father, were the only four people who once called him "Mr. Stoppable".
    • Shego called Ron by his first name, mainly "Ronald" and "Ronnie", but that was only when she was under the effects of the Reverse Polarizer/Attitudinator, where she was not her real self.
      • Besides his parents and Kim's father & nana/grandmother, four other people have called him "Ronald":
      1. Francios, Ron's barber, who gave him a new haircut once.
      2. Rabbi Kats, a guy who signed Ron's "Bar Mitzvah" certificate.
      3. Ms. Whisp, Ron's Algebra Teacher.
      4. Martin Smarty, founder of Smarty Mart and one of Ron's idols/mentors.
      • Oddly enough, Kim, Gill and Bonnie are the only people who call him "Ronnie", but Gill also calls Ron a "Squeeb".
    • Yori and Sensei are the only people who call him "Stoppable-san".
    • Fukushima called Ron an "Outsider".
    • His evil cousin Shaun calls him "Cousin Crybaby", but that was before Ron gave him a little "attitude adjustment" with the Attitudinator.
    • Motor Ed called Ron Kim's "Skinny Dude".
  • Gill and Shaun were the only people who took great pleasure in tormenting/bullying Ron.
  • Ron and Rufus went on five missions without Kim:
  1. Stopping Drakken from launching his Drak-Force One to take over Christmas.[51]
  2. Retrieving the Lotus Blade from Monkey Fist and Fukushima during Ron's one-week exchange student school trip in Japan.[12]
  3. Finding the rare Aurora Orchid flower in the South American Amazon jungle to save Kim from disappearing in embarrassment.[11]
  4. Getting back Ray-X from Dr. Drakken while Kim was sick.[21]
  5. Finding Kim's library book, throughout every villain's liar that they've traveled through before, which he misplaced.[9]

Notes[]

  1. Finding the rare Aurora Orchid flower in the South American Amazon jungle to save Kim from disappearing from embarrassment with the first Wadebot.[11]
  2. Finding Kim's overdue library book, which Ron misplaced, throughout every villain's lair they went through, only to find out later on that Ron unexpectingly had Kim's book with him the whole time, and never took it out of his backpack [9] with the Wadebot 2.0.
  • Even though his primary fear and phobia, Ron has befriended two monkeys:
  1. Frederick the Monkey Astronaut.
  2. Chippy, a monkey ninja who betrayed Monkey Fist due to establishing a friendship with Ron.
  • Ron communicated with five animals, but only three of them were different species, which were not Rufus:
    1. Frederick the Monkey Astronaut.
    2. Chippy the Monkey Ninja.
    3. Roachie the Mutated Cockroach.
    4. Professor Dementor's Two Mutant Dachshunds/Wiener Dogs.
    • Professor Dementor's Mutant Dachshunds/Wiener Dogs were the only animals Ron did not spend some quality time with, even though he was able to communicate with them, what with his "Worst Squirrel Call".
  • Just like Monique is Kim's best friend of her gender, Felix Renton is Ron's best friend of his gender.
  • Ron spent more time with Felix Renton than with Kim once[54], just like Kim spent more time with Monique than with Ron once[55].
  • Outside of "Virtu-Ron", Ron was seen playing video games in only three episodes in the entire series:
    1. Motor Ed
    2. Steal Wheels
    3. Roachie
  • Ron was seen playing video games with his best male friend, Felix Renton, in the first two episodes, and later with Roachie, a mutant cockroach that Ron befriended, in the third episode.
  • Ron's pants problem happened fifteen times in the series.
  • Before his Senior year of playing football and becoming Homecoming King, Ron was popular in school five times in the series, but each time it was not because of him being his normal self:
    1. Having his new haircut Kim gave him.
    2. Writing interesting stories in the school paper.
    3. Being muscular under the effects of the Molecular Muscle Enhancer, a ring built by Jack Hench.
    4. Having millions of dollars from his Bueno Nacho paycheck.
    5. Telling the truth while being under the effects of the Truth Ray.
    • His truth-telling popularity and muscular popularity, separately, only lasted for a whole day though.
  • Ron uses his mystical monkey power mainly when fighting Monkey Fist and his monkey ninjas.
  • Ron's main quote is "Boo-yah".
  • Ron only used his monkey power against Monkey Fist, Fukushima, and Warhok & Warmonga.
  • Oddly enough, Fukushima was the only villain Ron fought and defeated alone, without Kim and Rufus.
  • Ron was the only person to finish off Warhok & Warmonga.
  • Even though Monkey Fist is his main nemesis, Ron did not use his monkey power against him in only five out of ten episodes.
  • Ron defeated his arch-camp rival, Gill, without his monkey power.
  • Ron defeated Gill twice.
  1. Arts and crafts, along with a little help from Rufus,
  2. His Mutant-Beaver mutation, along with a little help from Kim & Bonnie.
  • Ron mutated twice in the series:
    1. Beaver, to stop Gill's rampage all over Camp Gottagrin, the renamed Wannaweep, after diving into a toxic pool near a small grotto.
    2. Fifteen-feet tall monster, wanting to eat junk food everywhere in Middleton, after falling into one of Jack Hench's chemical liquids, the Titan Project, and eating a lot of junk food from Bueno Nacho.
  • Ron was the only person to get zapped/affected by the Reverse Polarizer/Attitudinator in two KP episodes. But he was only zapped/affected twice per episode.
  • Ron was the only other person to have blue skin when he was evil, like Drakken. But only for his first time though.
  • When he was evil, Ron was the only person to put Shego in her place in the series, which no one else could do. But he was basically not himself.
  • In production order, Ron has the first line in the whole series calling Rufus' name while he was looking for him in his locker.
  • Even though he had a few love interests/crushes, not counting Bonnie, Zita Flores, and Kim Possible, Ron's best friend, was the only two girls Ron was seen dating, but Kim was the only one Ron was seen kissing, several times.
  • Ron and Kim were both seen dating one person before they started dating each other. Ron is dating Zita Flores, and Kim dating Josh Mankey.
  • As much as Kim was seen dating Josh in only two episodes, Ron was seen dating Zita in only two episodes as well:
    1. Grudge Match
    2. Virtu-Ron
  • In The Ron Factor, Ron tells Dr. Director's brother, Gemini, that he is a Virgo, making Ron's birthday anywhere from August 23rd to September 22nd—and while Kim's birthday is implied sometime in May, this would imply that he is older or younger than Kim.
    • As most American schools start somewhere between August and September, and end between the end of May and start of June, it can be inferred that he is older than Kim.
  • Ron is the only one of the good guys to have been shown owning a pet, Rufus. All other pets have been owned by enemies.
  • Ron has been shown losing his pants more than 14 times during the series. Also it has been mentioned that he has lost his pants on others occasions but have not been shown. Example: the United Nation Mission that was mentioned in Mathter and Fervent
  • Ron has been kissed by more people than anyone else on the show; Tara, Yori, Bonnie Rockwaller and of course Kim. Also Kim and Bonnie are the only ones to kiss Ron on the lips.
  • His personalities are very similar to Pixar characters, Flik, Linguini, WALL-E, Mater, Dory, and Arlo.
  • Ron's tendency to lose his pants even occurs in the video game Kim Possible 3: Team Possible, where it serves as an idle animation.
  • Before the fourth season Ron is the only high school aged main character to be shown to own a vehicle.
  • In "The Ron Factor" Ron claimed to Gemini that he was a Virgo in the star signs.
  • The Stoppables live next door to the Possibles, as seen in the opening of Larry's Birthday, with only a featureless, window-less grey house-like/shed-like structure between them and which appears to be on the Possibles' property.
  • Five years before his role as , Ron's VA Will Friedle starred in the 1997 movie Trojan War, wherein his character Brad Kimble was seen in high school wearing what would become Ron's clothes. (see image in Gallery)

An older version of Ron was introduced in an interactive featurette that was included in the DVD of A Sitch in Time. Little is known about him except that he still finds time to help Kim fight evil and has a stamp collection.

Behind the Scenes[]

Religion[]

As a Jew, Ron is the only Kim Possible character whose religious background is specifically mentioned in the series. This is handled in a similar way to that of fellow fictional Jew Willow Rosenberg - it forms part of his character's background and mannerisms, but is not an issue addressed directly by the series.

As such, Ron does not openly partake in religious activities or discuss his religion on screen. Instead, his background is usually referenced through stereotypes and cultural references associated with Judaism in the modern United States—for example, requesting kosher meals in the school cafeteria, despite not keeping kosher in other aspects of his diet. In the episode Big Bother, during breakfast, he asked for bacon, despite pork not being a kosher meat. Likewise, in Homecoming Upset, he is seen eating a slice of pepperoni pizza.

As of the end of Season 3, the only time that his background was referenced directly was during Season 1, when teacher Steve Barkin noticed that Ron's rabbi, Rabbi Katz, had given him a Bar Mitzvah certificate but had forgotten to sign it. Afterwards, he is seen consulting with a rabbi and makes several references to different aspects of Jewish culture. However, the reference primarily serves as a MacGuffin designed to lead up to a subplot that explored traditional teenage insecurities. After Barkin's discovery, Ron is sent into a spiral of self-doubt and resorts to using technology from super-villain supplier Jack Hench to give himself huge muscles, before discovering that manhood comes from within, not from what you look like on the outside or from a piece of paper (which Rabbi Katz eventually signs). This experience suggests that Ron is not particularly devoted to or knowledgeable about Judaism, since a boy has a Bar Mitzvah and becomes a man on his thirteenth birthday, signed certificate or not. The certificate and the ceremony are just formalities.

Despite his upbringing, Ron is an active participant in the secular aspects of Christmas, which he usually spends with the Possible Family. Ron's Jewish heritage was not prominently featured in any storyline during Season 4.
